Strategic Investment in Europe’s Energy Resilience

Global demand for polysilicon is projected to surge over the next decade, driven by technological growth, electrification, and decarbonization efforts.

The polysilicon produced by RESiLICON serves as feedstock for ingot manufacturers, who transform it into silicon ingots. These ingots are foundational to the semiconductor industry and essential for manufacturing solar cells and modules.

Today, polysilicon is recognised as one of the most critical materials for the energy transition and digital economy (IoT, AI, etc). However, over 85% of global polysilicon production occurs in China, raising concerns about supply security, forced labour, product quality, and carbon emissions.

In response to these issues and shifting geopolitical dynamics, the EU is prioritising self-sufficiency in strategic sectors including solar energy, battery storage, and semicon. This includes new regulations targeting critical materials like polysilicon. Once implemented by member states, these measures will exclude the majority of Chinese polysilicon, ingots, wafers, cells, and PV panels from European imports. This will create new business opportunities for local producers, reshaping market access, as many manufacturers are already seeking alternatives to Chinese suppliers, accelerating the shift toward diversified and ethical sourcing.
