RESiLICON has been confirmed by the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate as a strategic project under the EU Net-Zero Industry Act (NZIA), in recognition of its planned renewable-powered polysilicon facility in the Netherlands.

According to the Ministry, the project contributes to the NZIA’s core objectives, including scaling up Europe’s net-zero technologies, strengthening industrial supply chains and creating high-quality jobs.

The designation also reflects the growing importance of ultra-pure polysilicon as a critical material for Europe’s solar, battery and semiconductor industries.

As CEO Remco Rijn explains:

“This is a major recognition of the significance of RESiLICON. It confirms and strengthens our ambition to build sustainable and reliable polysilicon production in Europe, support more resilient European supply chains, and create attractive jobs and development opportunities.”

Today, more than 85% of global polysilicon production is concentrated in China, raising important questions for Europe around supply security, product quality and the resilience of critical value chains.

RESiLICON’s planned ultra-pure polysilicon production in the Netherlands will strengthen European value chains and reduce strategic dependencies. In addition, the project includes the production of silane, an important input for battery technologies.

The planned facility will be powered by renewable energy and is designed to operate with a strong focus on efficiency and resource use. Where possible, the process will use green raw materials such as metallurgical silicon and hydrogen, alongside essential inputs including steam, water and nitrogen.

The strategic importance of the project lies in its potential to:

  • Increase Europe’s production capacity for photovoltaic systems through the supply of ultra-pure polysilicon, and support battery technologies through silane
  • Contribute to EU renewable energy targets, including the diversification and security of energy supply
  • Create attractive employment and development opportunities
  • Support the competitiveness of SMEs across the value chain through improved access to high-quality, locally produced materials

The planned facility in the north of the Netherlands is designed to be among the most energy-efficient polysilicon plants globally, supporting the development of more resilient and competitive European value chains.

RESiLICON welcomes engagement with investors and partners interested in supporting the future of Europe’s energy, battery and semiconductor industries.
