As the essential feedstock for nextโ€‘generation highโ€‘quality anodes, silane is the raw material needed to produce silicon-copper anodes enabling batteries to become more efficient and compact, capabilities that are especially critical for Electric Vehicles and modern military drones.

Today, global silane supply is concentrated among a few players outside Europe, leaving manufacturers vulnerable to geopolitical and logistical risks. Building local silane production would significantly strengthen supply security and ensure the technological independence of Europeโ€™s cell production.

The EU Battery Regulation and broader industrial policy on strategic autonomy sets high standards for COโ‚‚ reduction, traceability, circularity, and the responsible production of materials. Reliable access to European-sourced highโ€‘purity silane is critical; without it, cell manufacturers cannot meet these requirements, leaving Europe dependent on imports.

As the EU Battery Regulation sets out, Europeโ€™s ambition is to build a complete battery value chain, covering โ€œ๐‘Ÿ๐‘Ž๐‘ค ๐‘š๐‘Ž๐‘ก๐‘’๐‘Ÿ๐‘–๐‘Ž๐‘™๐‘  ๐‘’๐‘ฅ๐‘ก๐‘Ÿ๐‘Ž๐‘๐‘ก๐‘–๐‘œ๐‘›, ๐‘ ๐‘ข๐‘ ๐‘ก๐‘Ž๐‘–๐‘›๐‘Ž๐‘๐‘™๐‘’ ๐‘ ๐‘œ๐‘ข๐‘Ÿ๐‘๐‘–๐‘›๐‘” ๐‘Ž๐‘›๐‘‘ ๐‘๐‘Ÿ๐‘œ๐‘๐‘’๐‘ ๐‘ ๐‘–๐‘›๐‘”, ๐‘๐‘Ž๐‘ก๐‘ก๐‘’๐‘Ÿ๐‘ฆ ๐‘š๐‘Ž๐‘ก๐‘’๐‘Ÿ๐‘–๐‘Ž๐‘™๐‘ , ๐‘๐‘’๐‘™๐‘™ ๐‘š๐‘Ž๐‘›๐‘ข๐‘“๐‘Ž๐‘๐‘ก๐‘ข๐‘Ÿ๐‘–๐‘›๐‘”, ๐‘Ž๐‘  ๐‘ค๐‘’๐‘™๐‘™ ๐‘Ž๐‘  ๐‘Ÿ๐‘’๐‘ข๐‘ ๐‘’ ๐‘Ž๐‘›๐‘‘ ๐‘Ÿ๐‘’๐‘๐‘ฆ๐‘๐‘™๐‘–๐‘›๐‘”,โ€ while strengthening sustainability, transparency and security of supply.

This is a challenge we hear consistently across the battery ecosystem, and one Europe can no longer afford to overlook.

At RESiLICON, we are committed to producing cost-effective silane for battery anode applications at our proposed Groningen facility, alongside polysilicon for the semiconductor and solar industries. This will support more resilient and sustainable European value chains. As such, an ideal location for an anode plant would be immediately adjacent to our proposed facility, connected with a silane pipeline.
